The new Headquarters of the Santander Consumer Bank in Mönchengladbach was completed at the end of 2006 and is now home to 1,200 employees. The design won HPP first prize in 2003 and manages not only to complete the site in a pleasing urban statement but also expresses the development of height on the site. The building itself is a meandering glazed structure whose 3 and 4 storeys are connected spatially and organisationally by an internal circulation system linking it to four inner courtyards and glass atria. The most important sections of the building: offices, conference and training areas, reception and restaurant are reached directly and effectively by means of this “main road”. Open office layouts offer a mixture of cells, combination and team offices as well as open-plan offices. The openness, flexibility and freedom of organisation thereby produced supports the flow of work and the transparency contributes to the flow of information and to communication.
