Official Opening of Shopping-Center Loop 5 in Weiterstadt
Loop 5, one of the biggest shopping centers in Germany opens today on the A5 autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.
The exposed position, the immense dimensions of 320 by 150 meters and the permanently changing, coloured levels of the buildings envelope as well as the crownlike top of perforated metal that is animated day and night by a twinkling play of light an shadow arouse curiosity already from distance.
This circular, three-story mall is connected to a multi-story car park for 3,000 cars and contains city center retailers and leisure facilities along with a unique Aviation theme world. The history of air travel form the beginning to the jet age is set out along four specially designed “experience corridors”. Propellers, wings, rudders and rotors in the graphic design of the banisters, floor surfaces and ceilings characterize the interior design oft the new shopping destination. The “Loop 5 Jet Plane” that hangs above the food court is a particular attraction.
