Last Thursday, HPP Architects formaIly presented their
latest book “Approaches” in the Helmut Hentrich Hall of the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf. Managing Directors
of the international firm of architects, Joachim H. Faust and Gerhard G.
Feldmeyer welcomed the mayor of Düsseldorf,
Friedrich G. Conzen, Head of the Cultural Department, Dr. Hans-Georg Lohe and Artistic
Director of the Tonhalle, Michael Becker along with 200 other guests to the
presentation. The book is an impressive review of HPP’s projects from the last
10 years. On 240 pages, it shows buildings and projects with which HPP have
helped to shape architecture in Germany: the renovation of Leipzig Central Station, the
AufSchalke arena, the bamboo-clad car park at Leipzig Zoo, the Grand Hotel
Kempinski in Heiligendamm, the Breidenbacher Hof Hotel in Düsseldorf that was
completed in 2008 and many more. Through descriptions of their approach to
projects, HPP show how their responses are borne out of the conflict in which
they work, creating architecture that is both emotional and logical.
The book was printed in an edition of 4,000 copies by Hatje
Cantz Verlag in Ostfildern. There are two editions, one in German and one in
English. They have been available in book shops since December for 49.80 Euro.
