Opening of the Rathaus-Galerie Leverkusen
A new city center for the people of Leverkusen.
The new Rathaus-Galerie
Leverkusen will open on 24 February 2010. Following the opening of the BayArena
in August last year, this is second major project that HPP Architects’ have completed
in Leverkusen
in the last six months.
The design for the new shopping center in the
center of Leverkusen-Wiesdorf was submitted to the investor competition held by
the City of Leverkusen
in the summer of 2005. HPP cooperated with ECE, the retail property developer
from Hamburg,
producing a design that re-defined the area around Friedrich Ebert Platz by
connecting it to the center of Wiesdorf. The aim of the design was to
completely reconfigure the location in order to create a new urban focal point
with a mix of uses ranging from city plaza, retail, town hall, civic center,
gastronomy and entertainment.
