Competition University Ruhr West
The Consortium of HPP Architects and ASTOC obtained one of the three second prices for the competition of the new University Ruhr West. A first price wasn´t assigned. The conceptual design is based on the winner concept of the preceding competition concerning town planning for the 43,000 square meter conversion areas at the Duisburgerstrasse in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
The competition assignment was the creation of an urban university campus with high identification and flexibility. The Campus shows an ensemble of eight differentiated structures, four institute buildings, three special's buildings and a multi-storey car park. While the four institute buildings embrace the central place, the special's buildings library, lecture building and refectory are arranged on the place and form the entrance of the campus.
Center stage of the conceptual design take the contrasting facade design of the institute buildings and the special buildings as well as the organization of the public areas for revaluation and stimulation of the adjacent area.
