Last Friday HPP won the international urban design
competition for redefining
the Chongqing High Speed Rail Station and the surrounding
area.
The main focus of the master plan is on the round train
station building with its unique roof disk design, offering a perfect identity
for a traffic hub. Besides
the new railway station a multipurpose area is
planned, integrating outstanding office and residential buildings as well as
buildings for cultural, shopping and leisure activities.
The Chongqing High Speed Rail Station is prominently
located between the Yangtze south banks and the hillside of the Chongqing peninsula. This
location offers visual connections towards the Yangtze waterfront and the
cityscape
up on the hill and therefore provides perfect preconditions for the
new train
station becoming a new architectural landmark within the city of Chongqing.
