



As announced last Thursday by the city of Cologne the planning
consortium of HPP Architects and theapro has received the award of contract for
the redevelopment of the listed opera and playhouse at Cologne´s
Offenbachplatz. The award of contract was the result of a European tendering
process.
The listed ensemble of opera and playhouse was built according
to Wilhelm Riphan´s plans between 1957 and 1962. The aim of today´s project is to
solve acoustic and constructive weak points, eliminate infrastructure and
security problems and optimize the work flow for the artistic activities.
Furthermore room acoustics of stage and auditorium will be improved and stagecraft
renewed.
Among the team of experts for the 225.000 cubic meters
redevelopment task under leadership of Remigiusz Otrzonsek, partner at HPP
Architects, are also theater projekte daberto + kollegen from Munich and the restroration
specialist Götz Lindlar Breu from Meiningen.
