Xujiahui Sports Park wins the 2023 AMP Award!

Renovated and designed by HPP, the Shanghai Xujiahui Sports Park was honored as one of the distinguished winners in the Landscape Architecture - Urban Design category of the 2023 Architecture MasterPrize.

Thousands of entries from 81 countries around the world participated in this year's awards, with only 5 projects being selected in the Urban Design category. The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) is an international architecture award, created to advance the appreciation and exposure of quality architectural design worldwide. The prize celebrates creativity and innovation in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, architectural product design and architectural photography.

Planned from the 1960s and formerly known as the Shanghai Sports Centre, Xujiahui Sports Park is an undeniable landmark of Shanghai’s sports culture. Since 2017, HPP has been responsible for the urban renewal, urban planning and architecture design of the park. After 6 years of dedicated work, the renovated sports park is officially open to the public in 2023. The uniqueness of the project mainly lies in the aspects of its city centre location and renovation for all citizens.

Embedded in a dense urban context, its green spaces were fragmented and inaccessible by disorganized traffic and buildings. Historically focused on professional events, it lacked public sports function. The design aims to preserve the stadiums while reorganizing the space into “one axis, two wings”. Historical venues form an event axis, the rest is divided into two green parks. Quality public spaces are created.
