



After the decision to relocate the German capital to Berlin, the Japanese government decided to return to its former embassy building there, which had been used as a Japanese-German Center. However new requirements dictated an expansion of the chancellery. As the result of a restricted architectural competition, the decision was made in favor of an expansion that allowed for the emergence of an homogenous overall building structure. The material and color concepts, as well as the design vocabulary, are all in keeping with the existing building
