Forty years after it was built, the landmark-protected Unilever
High-Rise has become a fixture of Hamburg’s cityscape. The building’s
floor plan typology is an exemplary expression of flexibility and
reversibility. This is another reason the building still stands today
in gravitational defiance, almost unchanged. With the scheduled gutting
of the structure, the building will retain its indelible con-
temporary
character and simultaneously be prepared for a new life in terms of its
energy, construction, organization, and technology.
