The foundation stone for the new multifunctional arena in Ekaterinburg, which is being built according to plans by HPP Architects, has being laid at the end of last week. The ceremony for the official start of construction took place as part of the international "100+ Forum Russia" congress, one of the largest construction industry events in Russia.

In the presence of the Minister of Construction of the Russian Federation, Yakushev V.V., the Governor of the Svedlovsk Region, Kuyvashev E.V., the Mayor of the City of Ekaterinburg, Vysokinsky A.G., the General Director of UMMC, Kositsyn A.A. and HPP Senior Partner Gerhard G. Feldmeyer, in addition to the traditional bricking-in of a time capsule, a timer was launched which counts down until the completion of construction on 30 June 2022.
The client, Ural Mining Metallurgical Company (UMMC), awarded the contract to HPP together with the city of Ural last year. The UMMC Arena will be the new home of the ice hockey team Awtomobilist Ekaterinburg and the women's basketball club UMMC Ekaterinburg and meets international competition standards. Designed as a multifunctional arena, the building is also the venue for a variety of other sports including hockey, basketball, volleyball, figure skating and boxing as well as hosting major international events.
