In 2019, the jury of the international competition decided that the concept of HPP Architects won first prize! The OCT is located directly on the waterfront and will become a lively cultural, leisure and entertainment venue once it opens. The striking façade design is reminiscent of the cultural heritage of the island of Tiaoshun, the net dragon dance. The dragon dance, in which a group of dancers carry a moving dragon figure on long poles, is traditionally performed in China for various festivities. In Zhanjiang, the speciality is that the dancers are inside the dragon.
