At the Re/View the Next Discourse, Marcel Abel (JLL), Kai Fischer (City of Düsseldorf), Sebastian Diehl (DZ HYP), Christina Schlottbom (ISR) and Werner Sübai (HPP) talked about what makes a CITY for us and how we achieve this against the backdrop of political and financial conditions, the demands of the market and increasing diversity.
Some conclusions from the discussion:
✔️ Urban transformation succeeds when convenience is made possible for its inhabitants!
✔️ Be courageous and work together instead of against each other!
✔️ Create a lively diversity of city components and allow new ways of thinking!
Our diverse panel from the fields of politics, economics, planning and finance agrees on one thing: a dialogue based on partnership and a consensus between all those involved in urban design, such as city representatives, developers, financiers, architects, planners and urban society, as well as a common vision is required in order to implement projects with a model character for the future!
Throughout the history of our own work, we as HPP have repeatedly dealt with themes of transformation - our Red Dot Design Award-winning exhibition Re/View the Next at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin last year provided selective insights into historical and contemporary solutions: From the perforated facade to the facade system (Drahthaus Düsseldorf 1952), from the transport structure to the multifunctionally used urban building block (Conversion Leipzig Central Station 1997), digitalisation, prefabrication and circular construction (The Cradle 2023), rededication of urban structures to public meeting space (Conversion Xujiahui Sportspark Shanghai, 2023), and much more.
We are now continuing the discussion series that was launched in the context of the exhibition - and would like to thank everyone who took part for a wonderful exchange!
Our special thanks go to KEUCO official, Gira and TRILUX for supporting the evening.
