RP-Forum „Zeitenwende für die Innenstadt“

Enthusiastically creating a sustainably designed and liveable environment.

As participants in the Rheinische Post Forum "Zeitenwende für die Innenstadt", HPP Architects, together with other participating companies from the architecture and real estate industry and the initiators, have been dealing with the pressing question for several months: How can inner city districts be designed to be sustainably liveable in times of climate change, so that an effective contribution can be made to achieving climate protection goals? Results on what the Friedrichstadt district in Düsseldorf should look like in 2030, 2040 and 2050 in order to provide a climate-resilient environment for residents have already been published several times. At the fourth major meeting, the participants now discussed the results so far and worked out further goals.

"We have to face the challenges of sustainable construction," explains Volker Weuthen, Senior Partner at HPP. Our proposal for Friedrichstadt 2030 - which was shown in the Rheinische Post special supplement at the turn of the year 2022/2023 with initial measures for a climate-friendly quarter - has been looked in a more detailed level during the last weeks. A cross-section through the neighbourhood now shows some concrete proposals for solutions: for example, the approach of redensification by adding storeys, PV systems to cover electricity needs, geothermal energy and the application of the sponge city principle with dense planting of the free spaces, roofs and facades. The bundling of parking spaces in neighbourhood garages and a neighbourhood app to connect the residents with each other is part of the innovative inner city transport concept.
