A grand opera, and a lot of drama? Senior Partner R. Otrzonsek speaks at the MAKK

HPP Senior Partner Remigiusz Otrzonsek gave a keynote speech yesterday at Cologne's Museum of the Performing Arts (MAKK), followed by a discussion on the topic "A drama on four stages? The construction site on Offenbachplatz".

Together with Bernd Streitberger, Technical Operations Manager at Bühnen Köln, he takes a look at the current status of the refurbishment of the stages on Offenbachplatz in Cologne being carried out by HPP.

In a Europe-wide tender procedure in 2010, the working group HPP Architects/ theapro was awarded the contract for the general refurbishment of the listed Cologne stages on Offenbachplatz. The ensemble consisting of opera house, theatre and opera terrace, built between 1954 and 1962 and designed by Wilhelm Riphahn, is to be completely renovated. In addition to the renovation and functional upgrading of the opera house and theatre, the planning includes the creation of a children's opera and a "small stage" in the area of the former opera terraces.

The event was the prelude to the supporting programme for the exhibition "GREAT OPERA - A LOT OF DRAMA?", which will take a comparative look at  other European stage constructions from 30 March to 30 June 2019.
