For children with emotional and social development needs, such qualities are more than a matter of design. A clearly legible environment provides stability, creates a sense of reliability and supports an independent school day.
Together with KLEUSBERG, HPP is developing a new school building in the Steinfurt district that translates these educational requirements into spatial form. A central connecting building, with the assembly hall as a shared meeting place, forms the centre of two building wings. The clear and comprehensible layout of the Michael Ende School in Lengerich creates short, intuitive routes and straightforward circulation, with no dead ends and a clear relationship to the shared centre.
The interior design is also tailored to the needs of the children. Upholstered learning pods within the classroom areas provide protected retreat spaces for concentration, calm and individual needs. In addition, carefully applied colours support orientation and help differentiate the various areas within the building.
A school building that combines spatial clarity with educational quality is going to be created. The building application for the project was submitted this month. Completion is scheduled for October 2027.
