The shell of the new building part has already been completed and the interior work and outdoor facilities will be finished in the coming months. At the same time, the roof of the existing east stand will be re-roofed.
Following its completion next year, the Lohrheidestadion will be the only sports venue in North Rhine-Westphalia that can host German outdoor athletics championships. The modernised stadium will also host the athletics competitions at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. A sports building with a particularly high profile for the entire region. And an important component of Wattenscheid's health-oriented urban development: the sports and exercise areas serve local clubs and the surrounding neighbourhood.
