First prize for Franz-Josef-Strauß-Allee, Bonn

HPP's design for a residential and office quarter on the former site of the federal transportation service in Bonn was awarded first prize for urban redensification!

A four- to six-storey block shields the neighbourhood from noise from the adjacent main road and ensures a high quality of living and amenity. Inside the neighbourhood, three free-standing point buildings break up the development structure and create a central square. A particular highlight is the 6-storey solitary building at the eastern end of the avenue, which serves as an entrance to the neighbourhood and accommodates a wide range of multifunctional uses such as offices, co-working and a daycare centre. The open space concept integrates the scenic qualities of Bonn`s Rheinaue and preserves a large part of the existing tree population. With a high proportion of greenery and the creation of infiltration areas, the concept is based on the sponge city principle, which contributes to the ecological stability of the neighbourhood.
