The design combines programmatic and functional requirements with high sustainability standards and integrates these into a new overall architectural image while respecting the existing iconic appearance. Due to the high utilisation of the P+R sites in Rotterdam, the existing infrastructure needs to be upgraded. With Level Up, Rotterdam will have a car park that offers added value to visitors and residents in the surrounding area, thus contributing to sustainable urban development.
The building is based on a holistic sustainability concept: planting zones create retention areas and reduce noise, while the use of solar panels and wind turbines ensures energy neutrality. In the spirit of urban mining, the construction uses steel profiles made from the region's old buildings to reduce the ecological footprint The highlight of Level Up is the parametrically designed building envelope with a fabric made from recycled PET bottles. The fabric has an air-purifying effect thanks to a photocatalytic nano-titanium dioxide coating.
