Last week, the award ceremony took place during the two-day Forum Holzbau at the Gürzenich in Cologne. With its forward-looking sustainability concept and striking architecture, the architecturally highly sophisticated office building, which was built using a timber hybrid construction method based on the Cradle to Cradle® principle, stands for innovation, openness and a new understanding of architecture," said the jury of the NRW Timber Construction Award. The Cradle sees itself as a material store - all building materials have been tested for material health, purity and separability. 2,150 m3 of certified sustainable timber from European forests (mostly in Germany) replaced concrete, an environmentally damaging building material, wherever possible. Compared to conventional buildings, the material health was improved by 56% and the CO2 footprint by 50%.
