HPP awarded 1st Prize in Düsseldorf's Ulmer Höh Competition

HPP won the design competition and were commissioned to design the residential building on plot 3 of the maxfrei city quarter.

In the mixed-use quarter on the site of the former prison in Düsseldorf-Derendorf, a total of approx. 500 residential units and approx. 15,000 m² of commercial space are to be realised by 2023 as commissioned by the INTERBODEN joint venture with HAMBURG TEAM Gesellschaft für Projektentwicklung mbH. The central theme of the HPP design for construction site three is "Diversity and Unity" and is based on the architectural expression of an ensemble of buildings that creates identity, which develops from the spirit of the location and interprets it structurally - a house for the location. Due to the vertical arrangement of the building structure and the pedestal zone, the new building blends into the structure of the surrounding buildings and, in combination with the colour and materiality of the Ulmer Höh' and its surroundings, forms a striking building block. Variations in material and colour break down the scale and create identifiable units. The formation of a rhythmic roof structure generates a variety of terraces, responds to the surrounding building heights and creates a distinctive silhouette.
