Exactly one year ago, on 12 December 2024, the starting point for the tender was set with the invitation to tender for bidders. The decision by Kiel City Council has finally given the long-awaited green light for the construction of the new Holstein-Stadium. Once revitalised, the stadium will become both an economic driver for the city and a cultural meeting place for young and old alike. The comprehensive revialisation will create a cohesive, modern structure with a clear architectural signature and maritime references, which will also embed the stadium more visually into the cityscape. The rib-like roof construction is reminiscent of shipbuilding and thus ties in with Kiel's identity. The new arena will seat 22,087 spectators, and for sustainability reasons, some of the existing infrastructure and structural elements will be retained and integrated. The playing field will be moved a few metres to the west to ensure that matches can continue to be played. In addition, the supporting structure of the new stadium roof will offer the possibility of installing a comprehensive photovoltaic system in the future.
Following completion of the tender process, detailed consultations with all parties involved will now take place over the coming months.
