Second prize for the competition Schloss Benrath - Westflügel

HPP was awarded with a 2nd prize in the competition for the general refurbishment, conversion and change of use of the west wing of "Schloss Benrath".

The HPP design takes into account the structural, historical and cultural characteristics of the listed castle, preserves the spatial qualities and provides for minimally invasive planning in the existing building. In the courtyard, a modern visitor centre and reception area will be created, covered by a filigree glass and steel structure that will be sensitively integrated into the existing building. The historic gate to the castle pond will serve as the future main entrance, through which visitors will reach the reception, ticket office and museum shop. Visible from the reception is the grand staircase leading to the vaulted cellar and the Corps de Logis. On the ground floor, the rooms overlooking the English landscape garden house parts of the exhibition, while the rooms overlooking the castle pond present the temporary exhibition. Opposite the entrance, there is a lapidarium with sculptures. The ground floor is laid out according to the historic structure of the building and the rooms, with two staircases on the narrow sides providing access to the upper floor, where the permanent exhibition is situated. In keeping with the historic layout of the rooms, the window linings have been restored, allowing for flexibility in the exhibition concepts.
