WAN Award Bronze for the XJTLU Campus in Taicang

The Taicang Campus of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was named winner of the WAN Award 2021 as a future-oriented educational building and ranked among the top 3 in the "Future Projects Education" category.

The centerpiece of the concept is the 850-meter-long radial "Learning Mall" that links all teaching and research facilities and promotes maximum exchange as a place of encounter and communication. At the same time, this distinctive element defines the private outdoor area in the center and the transition to the public realm. Inside, a sheltered campus with generous green spaces and an inviting atmosphere is formed. On the outside, the development opens up to the city. "Integration and symbiosis" is the design concept of Taicang Campus, which is implemented through water features, vegetation, pathways and landscape elements. Combining outdoor and indoor spaces, the drive and creativity of students and teachers is fostered in a diverse and vibrant learning community.

In 2018, HPP won the international competition for the campus with a total GFA of 426,555 m² and is now responsible for the architectural, interior and landscape design, as well as the general planning of the project. It is scheduled for completion in 2022.
