CISPA Campus St. Ingbert Saarbrücken

Research in the Loop: A Campus for a Digital Future

With the new CISPA Helmholtz Centre for Information Security, a campus is taking shape in St. Ingbert that integrates research and collaboration spatially. The architecture is defined by openness and connectivity, expressed in the circular geometry of the main building and the diverse outdoor spaces that promote exchange and interaction.

Four buildings form the new campus: research in the ring building, hub for events and exhibitions, workshop building and multi‑storey car park

70,000 m² GFA for forward‑looking research and collaboration

Planted courtyard and terrace modules enabling extended outdoor working

Biodiversity belt as a landscape connection with ecological value

The site of the former Neumann Works features a pronounced slope. The design uses this topography as a spatial asset: buildings and open spaces are positioned to follow the stepped terrain, enabling short routes between functions.

At the heart of the campus lies the six‑storey ring building. Its form establishes a clear spatial order and symbolises the interconnectedness of the research fields. Continuous ribbon windows structure the façades to optimise daylight. The planted inner courtyard serves as a place of encounter and extends the working environment outdoors.

The “Green Forum” forms the main entrance and links architecture and landscape. Terrace modules with different functions – from “open workspace” to “lunch & café” and “open lecture” – make the outdoor areas an integral part of campus life. A bound gravel path meanders through generous planting clusters of perennials, grasses, shrubs, and solitary trees.

Segmented ribbon windows in combination with opaque metal panels define the appearance while ensuring excellent daylight, natural ventilation, and a low‑maintenance construction. On the roofs, greening, photovoltaics, and rainwater management form an integrated ecological system that combines energy efficiency, climate comfort, and spatial quality.
