Work Environments L’Oréal Headquarters Düsseldorf

Brand Identity Translated into Space

The new headquarters of L’Oréal Germany at Düsseldorf’s Kennedydamm embodies contemporary work environments that place openness, communication, and flexibility at the centre. The interior concept translates the brand diversity of the company into a spatial language that creates identity and inspiration.

“Activity Based Working” – a new interior concept for a fundamentally transformed way of working

Active participation process – employees were able to help shape the modular spatial configuration

Flexible and fixed workspaces in almost equal proportion, with the right setting for every task

Architecture and interior design interlock, both created by HPP

The interior concept follows a clear organisational logic. Its modular structure is derived from the architecture and oriented toward the façade grid. Each office storey is characterised by a hybrid central meeting zone—partly enclosed, partly open—around which the open working landscapes are arranged. The design supports not only efficient workflows but also a culture of collaboration and exchange.

The interior concept follows a clear organisational logic. Its modular structure is derived from the architecture and oriented toward the façade grid. Each office storey is characterised by a hybrid central meeting zone, partly enclosed, partly open around which the open working landscapes are arranged. The design supports not only efficient workflows but also a culture of collaboration and exchange.

Particular focus is placed on the communication zones: each floor provides a “landing zone” in its own distinct style, ranging from shabby chic to modern. Employees could choose modules such as PicPoint, OpenBox or Think Tank from a specially developed catalogue. This created a work environment that unites corporate identity with personal expression.

The headquarters forms the new gateway to the northern part of Düsseldorf. The horizontal articulation of the architecture, with offset storeys, expresses movement, lightness, and transparency. Terraces and roof areas extend the working environment outdoors and offer places for breaks and events with views across the city.

L’Oréal’s teams are committed to sustainability, and the interior concept provides the framework for this: intelligent lighting control, acoustic heating and cooling ceilings, and only two printers per floor. The “paperless office” has led to a 45% reduction in printing activity. Drinking habits in the workplace have also been reconsidered and aligned with sustainable practices. Newly introduced glass bottles for employees save 40,000 PET bottles annually.
