Cultural Center and Town Hall Piaseczno
A Place of Encounter for City, Culture and Community
The project understands architecture as a catalyst between urban identity and the openness of the surrounding landscape. The new Cultural Centre and the new Town Hall form an ensemble that grows out of the logic of the city while deliberately opening itself towards the adjacent parkland. Architecture becomes a mediator, seamlessly integrating movement, encounter, and cultural life.

Piaseczno’s historic centre is characterised by small‑scale buildings, clearly defined street spaces, and a strong relationship with the Park of the Dukes of Masovia. The project responds precisely to this context. It reinterprets the typologies, heights and materiality of the surrounding fabric, and translates them into a contemporary, differentiated structure. Existing plots, historic buildings, and the Perełka river are actively incorporated, creating a new yet closely interwoven piece of the city. The roofscape, partly greened and partly pitched, interprets the silhouettes of the surrounding buildings and connects the ensemble harmoniously with its context.
The composition unfolds as a sequence of courtyards, squares and passages. Two central spaces the foyer of the Cultural Centre and the agora of the Town Hall act as spatial interfaces between the public realm of the city and the park landscape. A central, publicly accessible courtyard forms their spatial, and functional link. It creates passages, offers high-quality places to linger and provides space for cultural activities outdoors. Through a mobile curtain façade, the stage of the multifunctional hall can be extended into the courtyard.
The façades of the Cultural Centre and the Town Hall are clearly differentiated. Facing the city, the Cultural Centre presents dense, vertical concrete elements with a fine, almost textile rhythm, while the Town Hall formulates a calm, institutional presence through striking, vertically proportioned concrete columns. Towards the green spaces, the Town Hall appears predominantly in timber façades, while the Cultural Centre is accentuated by more powerfully articulated hall volumes, in particular the sculptural chamber hall.
With its highly flexible stage and spatial technology, the Cultural Centre responds to a wide range of cultural scenarios: concerts, theatre, film, dance, banquets or open‑air formats. Retractable seating, mobile stage elements and openings towards the outdoor stage enable diverse configurations. The Town Hall follows the same principle of flexibility and connectivity. Workspaces can be configured according to different grid systems, meeting rooms link both buildings, and transparent transitions ensure openness and accessibility within the civic service areas.
