Entrances to the vertical city
The foyers of the two office towers mark key nodes within the new FOUR Frankfurt urban quarter and guide users and visitors into the vertical city. They set the first accent of the overarching interior concept of the four elements for the four towers and anchor the identities of AER (Tower 1) and AQUA (Tower 4) directly at the entrance. The spaces welcome visitors, provide orientation and act as threshold spaces between the public, diverse ground-floor realm, and the working environments of the upper storeys.

FOUR is located within the central urban fabric of Frankfurt’s banking district. Both foyers open towards the quarter square and the dense surrounding streetscape. From the outside, transparent façades mark the transitions; inside, the foyers take on the role of mediating between public movement, corporate address, and working environments. Both foyers are designed to accommodate high visitor volumes while seamlessly integrating security and orientation.
In both AER and AQUA, vertical panels, differentiated lighting ceilings and finely coordinated natural stone surfaces structure the spatial experience. The lighting becomes an architectural element that connects material and geometry, giving each tower its own distinct signature.
The foyer in Tower 1 opens generously across two levels. The reception area is accompanied by a clearly defined white balustrade that runs through the space like a floating line. The wall-side structure of vertical panels a combination of lava-stone look, glass, and metallic shimmering surfaces creates a calm, cool colour palette. Precisely positioned points of light emphasise the concept of movement. They make the ceiling appear to float and accentuate the verticality. Planting along sections of the walls introduces a calm, biophilic accent.
The characteristic light installation of the Tower 4 foyer forms a flowing, lamella-like light body that descends from the ceiling and transitions into the wall surfaces at lower level. This lighting gesture is the central identity feature of the foyer and defines the tower address. The material palette combines travertine and dark natural stone, complemented by timber panels and fine metal profiles. The panels are vertically structured, with colours ranging between warm natural tones and cool stone. The terrazzo-like natural stone flooring provides a calm, grounded surface that balances the dynamic light installation.
The acoustic challenges of large entrance areas were addressed in both towers through integrated lamella and acoustic ceilings. In Tower 1, wave-shaped felt and aluminium lamellae (Stratus & Nimbus) provide a reduced reverberation, while Tower 4 relies on acoustically effective timber and stone elements as well as the lamella-based light installation. Both foyers follow a clear orientation logic: reception, waiting areas, and access to security and lift zones are intuitively legible and precisely integrated into the joint pattern of the wall panels.
